JULIAN BIDLAKE'S CANCER CHARITY APPEAL

(Posted: 9th Oct 08)

The following was taken from the Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign's own appeal: International squash representative, Julian Bidlake, is an inspiration to us all. Despite a life dominated by cancer he has held on to and achieved his dreams. Julian represented Ireland at the 2008 Masters Home Internationals in April achieving 3-1 wins against Scotland and Wales but being pipped at the post with a 3-1 loss to tournament favourites, England. Julian was just five when his mother died of cancer, so it meant a great deal for him to represent her homeland, Ireland. Her death was not the only driving force behind his desire to achieve his dream of playing international squash. Seven years ago he faced his own cancer fight after being diagnosed with testicular and stomach cancer. Then earlier this year, just days before Julian was due to compete in a qualifying tournament, he lost his younger brother who had also been battling cancer. Despite it all, Julian is remarkably philosophical. "My family has been very unlucky with cancer but we have all been extremely lucky to receive treatment at The Royal Marsden. Not only is it a world leader in cancer treatment and care but the staff there are particularly special and their support makes receiving treatment almost bearable". If you are interested in sponsoring Julian's bid to play at the World Masters in New Zealand or want to donate to Julian's Cancer Campaign Fund, please contact the fundraising team on 020 8770 0279. www.justgiving.co.uk/julianbidlake1

Updated Instructions for the new booking system are available to download on-line

(Posted: 10th Sep 08)

All members receive details of the new on-line court booking system in the post. However the user guides for both on-line access and the touch screen terminal in the clubhouse have been updated to cover floodlit tennis court bookings as well as squash. They can be found under Applications and Downloads on this site for download as pdf files.

On-line booking system now includes floodlit tennis.

(Posted: 10th Sep 08)

From 15th September, members will be able to book the floodlit tennis courts on-line and on the club house touch screen terminal. The existing booking sheets will be discontinued from that date and any outstanding bookings will be transfered over to the new system so no action is needed. Booking of courts 2 to 5 will be required from 5pm onwards, irrespective of whether the floodlights are to be used, and can be made free of charge up to 14 days in advance. Payment at the time of playing will continue to be required when the floodlights are used. Clubnights will continue to be on Wednesdays from 6.30pm and on Fridays from 8pm, for which no bookings are required. Full details can be found in the updated User Guide which can be downloaded from the 'Applications and Downloads' pages of this website.
